About this app

SSH Server for Android

SSH Server turns your Android device into a fully functional SSH and SFTP server, allowing you to access your device remotely from Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, or other compatible clients.

Use your Android device as a secure remote terminal and file server over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, tethering, or other available network interfaces.

Features

  • SSH server — Access a full terminal remotely from compatible SSH clients.
  • SFTP server — Transfer and manage files securely using SFTP.
  • Multiple users — Create multiple users, including optional anonymous access.
  • Public key authentication — Configure public key authentication for individual users.
  • Flexible file access — Give each user access to one or more folders.
  • Read-only or full write access — Configure access permissions for each SFTP path.
  • Hidden file control — Choose whether hidden files are visible to each user.
  • Multiple network interfaces — Use Wi-Fi, Ethernet, tethering, and other available interfaces.
  • Automatic Wi-Fi startup — Automatically start the SSH/SFTP server when a configured Wi-Fi network is detected.
  • Automatic startup on boot — Start the server automatically when the device boots.
  • Custom server port — Change the SSH server port when required.
  • QR code sharing — Tap a server address to generate a QR code for easier connection setup.
  • Tasker and scripting support — Control the server using Android intents and automation tools.

User management

Create and manage separate SSH/SFTP users with individual settings.

For each user, you can configure:

  • User enabled or disabled
  • Shell access
  • Public key authentication
  • SFTP access paths
  • Read-only or read/write permissions
  • Hidden file visibility

SFTP file access

Each user can have multiple access paths pointing to folders in internal storage or external SD card storage.

Access permissions can be configured independently for each path.

Supported clients

You can connect using SSH or SFTP clients on:

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Android
  • Other compatible platforms

Tested clients include:

  • FileZilla
  • WinSCP
  • Bitvise SSH Client
  • macOS Finder
  • Linux terminal and file managers
  • Total Commander
  • ES File Explorer

Tasker integration

SSH Server supports Android intents for automation.

Package:

net.xnano.android.sshserver

Broadcast receiver:

net.xnano.android.sshserver.receivers.CustomBroadcastReceiver

Available actions include:

  • net.xnano.android.sshserver.START_SERVER
  • net.xnano.android.sshserver.STOP_SERVER

Network and permissions

The app requires network access so SSH and SFTP clients can connect to the server.

Storage access is required to allow the SFTP server to access files that you make available.

Location permission is only required when using automatic Wi-Fi detection on Android versions where access to Wi-Fi connection information is restricted.

Doze mode

Android Doze mode may affect the server's operation in the background. If the server does not remain available as expected, add the app to the device's battery optimization or Doze whitelist.

Location permission is only required when using the automatic Wi-Fi detection feature on supported Android versions.

  • Storage

Required to allow the SSH/SFTP server to access files that you make available through the server.

  • Internet

Required to allow SSH and SFTP clients to connect to the server.

  • Network State

Used to detect available network connections and provide network information required by the server.

  • Wi-Fi State

Used for Wi-Fi network information and automatic Wi-Fi startup features.

  • Location

Required on supported Android versions when using automatic Wi-Fi detection to start the SSH/SFTP server.
